Chapter 128: Zeitgeist (aka: Walk Away)

Tomorrow, the neighbor will ask if I had a good Christmas

(whatever that actually means) …

It doesn’t matter – he doesn’t care either way,

he will ask out of custom and habit.

But he certainly doesn’t want to know the truth,

or any details – when we’re talking, I’m constantly reminded, only his story, woes or joys, are of consequence.

So, in the spirit of the time and place,


I will smile, say: “Yes!”

then, enigmatically: “Merry Christmas, Mister Lawrence!”.

And, walk away.
